Draw a flag and see who already flies something like it. Pick an arrangement, pick the colours, and the page scores your design against all 250 national flags on this site. Everything happens in your browser — the design is not stored on our server unless you copy its link.

How the matches are worked out

Every flag on this site was measured pixel by pixel from the same image files we serve: a grid of 640 sample points, each given one of 19 plain colour names by its hue, lightness and saturation, so the result says how much of that flag is each colour. Your design is measured the same way — the areas come from the geometry itself. Two flags count as close when a lot of their area is made of the same colours, so the ranking is about colour and coverage only: it does not look at where the bands run, how dark the exact red is, or what any of it symbolises.

Because of that, a match is a starting point, not a verdict — the two flags either side of yours may be near-identical in colours and completely different as designs. The ruler also keeps near shades apart: light green, green and dark green are three separate answers, so a plainer green than a flag’s own measured shade will rank it lower — pick the shade the flag really carries. Open any result to read what its symbols actually mean, with sources, on its own page.

Measuring all 250 of them this way also shows what the world does not put on its flags: no national flag in the set has a measurable amount of pink or purple on it — nothing over the 1.5 % floor the measurement keeps. Try either colour and watch the list fall away. All flags · Guess-the-Flag quiz.
