Our brains keep words encountered repeatedly in context, not long lists. Here is the "one word a day" approach and how Tukuk turns it into a habit.
Why 1000-word lists fail
Many people try to learn a language by scrolling through long lists — 100 words in one day — and a week later almost all of it is gone. The reason: long-term memory is built from repeated exposure in meaningful context, not mass memorization. One word you meet today, tomorrow, and the day after in a game will "stick"; a hundred words read once will fall away.
The one-word-a-day approach
Satu Kata (an experiment we retired in October 2026 — the habit below still works, just pick the word yourself) built that small habit: every day, one new word — with an emoji, a short meaning, and a mini app plus a mini game around that word. Today rain 🌧️, tomorrow rocket 🚀. You do not feel like you are "studying"; you feel like you are playing, while vocabulary quietly seeps in.
A little but consistent
The key is consistency, not intensity. Five minutes a day beats three hours on a weekend that never repeats. After a month, you have met 30 words in various forms — enough to start remembering without deliberate memorization. And because each set can also be downloaded as an APK or installed as a PWA, your habit comes along in your pocket instead of being stuck on one desktop.
Combine it with search
When you meet a word you are unsure about, use the Tukuk search engine to find its meaning and example sentences — no tracking, no need to open a dozen tabs. Language learning is not about the flashiest app; it is about the tool you actually open every day. One word, one day — that is all it takes to start.
